What cookies are and why we use them

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return, your browser sends that file back to us, so we can recognise the device and remember what happened last time. Similar technologies such as pixels, tags and local storage work in much the same way, and we refer to all of them as cookies in this policy.

We use cookies for four broad reasons: to make the site work, to keep your account and our payment pages secure, to understand how the site is performing, and to measure the marketing we run. Some cookies are set by us. Others are set by the suppliers who provide parts of our service, such as game providers, payment processors, analytics tools and live chat; these are known as third-party cookies.

Cookies are either session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which stay on your device until they expire or you remove them. The name, purpose and storage period of each cookie we use are listed in the cookie notice on the site. Where a cookie involves personal data, our Privacy Policy explains how we handle that data and what rights you have over it.

The types of cookies we use

We group cookies into the four categories below. You can accept or decline each category except the first, which the site cannot operate without.

Strictly necessary

These cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They keep you signed in as you move between pages, hold the details of a deposit while it is being completed in the cashier, spread traffic across our servers, and support the security and verification checks we carry out on accounts. Because we hold a gaming licence and must verify every account, cookies of this kind also help us apply the deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion settings recorded against your account on the device you are using.

Performance and analytics

These cookies tell us how the site is used: which pages are opened, how long they take to load, where an error appeared and at what point a visitor left a page. The reports we receive are aggregated, so we can see that a page failed for a number of visitors without identifying anyone individually. We use them to fix faults and to decide which parts of the site need work.

Functionality

These cookies remember choices you have made, so you do not have to set them again. Examples include your preferred language, whether sound is on in a game, the way a game lobby is sorted, and the fact that you have already closed an on-screen notice. Some also keep the live chat on the site connected while you move between pages.

Marketing

These cookies measure how our advertising and partner referrals perform. They record that you arrived from a particular campaign, limit how often you see the same message, and allow registrations and deposits that followed an advert to be counted. Where a marketing cookie is set by a third party, that party may combine what it collects with information it holds from other websites. We set marketing cookies only if you have agreed to them.

How to manage cookies

You can control non-essential cookies in two places: the cookie notice on our site and the settings in your browser.

  1. In the cookie notice. The notice appears the first time you visit and can be reopened from the cookie settings link in the footer of every page. There you can accept all categories, decline all non-essential categories, or choose category by category, and then save your choice.
  2. Changing your mind. Your choice is recorded so we do not keep asking, and you can change it at any time in the same place. Withdrawing consent stops further use of that category; cookies already stored can be cleared in your browser.
  3. In your browser. Every major browser lets you block all or third-party cookies, delete cookies for a single site, clear stored cookies when you close the window, or browse in a private mode that discards them at the end of the session. The steps sit under the privacy or site settings area of the browser's menu, and the browser's own help pages set them out for the version you are running.
  4. On your device. Mobile operating systems have their own controls for advertising identifiers and tracking permissions, which apply across apps as well as the browser.

If you use more than one browser or device, your choices need to be made separately on each, because cookie settings are held locally rather than against your account.

What happens if you block cookies

Declining non-essential cookies is straightforward and the main parts of the site will still work. Blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies is different: the site may not work fully, and some things will stop working altogether.

  • You may be unable to sign in, or you may be signed out each time you open a new page.
  • A deposit or withdrawal may fail part-way through, because the cashier cannot keep track of the request.
  • Games may not load, and settings such as language or sound will reset on every visit.
  • The live chat on the site may not open or may lose the thread of a conversation.
  • Clearing cookies also removes the record of your cookie choices, so the notice will ask you again.

Your safer gambling settings are not affected

Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are held against your account with us, not against your browser, so clearing cookies does not switch them off or shorten them. Our site is for players aged 18 and over only. Free, confidential support is available from GambleAware, GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline, and you can self-exclude from licensed online gambling sites in Great Britain through GamStop.

How to reach us about cookies

If a cookie setting is not saving, a page is behaving oddly after you declined a category, or you want to know more about a particular cookie listed in our notice, contact us at support@casino-ojo.co.uk or through the live chat on the site. It helps if you tell us which browser and device you are using and what you were trying to do.

For questions about how we use the personal data collected through cookies, or to exercise your data protection rights, write to privacy@casino-ojo.co.uk. We may update this policy when the cookies we use change, and the current version is always the one published here.
